“In the waves of change, we find our true direction.” – Unknown
All of us were born with a unique purpose in life, and it’s our job to figure out what that purpose is and live it to our fullest potential.
But, in order to do this, we have to first help ourselves by taking responsibility for where our lives are versus where we want them to be.
Are you ready to help yourself take responsibility for your life? If you are, here are 17 ways you can do just that:
1.) Let Go of the Victim Mindset
Challenges and hardships are part of life, and they’ll either define your life or become a lesson along the way.
By releasing blame toward people who wronged you, or bad things that happened in your life, you’ll be able to free yourself from this victim mindset. Doing this will allow you to tap into your infinite power, and become the master of your own life.
2.) Take Ownership of Your Life
Don’t wait around from someone to tell you what to do, who to be or how to live your life. Take complete ownership of your life so you’re the person writing your life story rather than someone else.
3.) Read Regularly
Regular reading will allow you to expand your awareness, increase your knowledge base and tap into many different worlds, concepts and ideas.
Not only is reading calming, and good exercise for your brain — it’s also a way to garner inspiration and tap into your own creativity!
4.) Journal Your Thoughts
You have thousands of thoughts every day, and sometimes those thoughts play out insidiously in your mind. Rather than keeping them locked away, journal them.
Journaling will help you release repressed emotions, work through issues and challenges in your life, and can also be a great way to tap into your inner desires.
5.) Say Thank You For 3 Things Every Day
Like energy attracts like energy, so when it comes to living your best life, gratitude should be an essential part of your routine.
Apply gratitude to your life by saying, writing or thinking about 3 things you’re grateful for every day. It won’t be long before you have more to be grateful for!
6.) Accept Where You Are Now
The past is gone, and the future doesn’t yet exist. Right now, you only have this moment. And even though your life right now might not be the life you ultimately want to live, you can only make lasting changes by first accepting where you are now.
By accepting your life as it is currently, and embracing the present moment, you’ll be able to take inspired action to make the changes you want to see in your life.
7.) Set Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Goals
Regular goal setting is one of the best ways to consistently get things done and reach milestones.
By setting small daily, weekly and monthly goals that are actionable, realistic and you can commit to, you’ll have a clear path to reach your dreams.
8.) Regularly Assess Your Progress
How far have you come? What have you done well? Where would you like to improve?
Ask yourself these questions regularly to assess your progress. It’s important you acknowledge the things you’re doing well, and areas in your life that need improvement. Doing this will keep you focused and motivated so you can live the life you want!
9.) Give Love to Yourself Every Day
“The most powerful relationship you will ever have is with yourself.” – Steve Maraboli
In life, you are either your own biggest fan or your greatest enemy. Which describes you?
The reality is, the relationship you have with yourself is the most important relationship you’ll ever have because it’s the foundation of all of your other relationships. If you want to attract healthy, loving relationships into your life then you need to first learn how to give love to yourself every day.
You are worthy and deserving of unconditional love so start each day by honoring yourself and being loving and kind to yourself!
10.) Perform One Random Act of Kindness Weekly
The universe works in karmic order, so the more kindness and love you exude, the more kindness and love you’ll receive.
What’s more — you never know how one random act of kindness can impact someone else’s life and your own.
Make time at least once a week to do something nice for someone else just because. Not only will you feel uplifted and inspired, but so will the other person. It’s a win-win situation!
11.) Let Go of Toxic People
Toxic people (aka energy vampires) take from others without returning anything but polluted air and surroundings.
In order to help yourself, and move forward with your life in the best direction for you, eliminate all of the toxic people from your life. You’ll be amazed at how quickly things start to turn around in your favor once they’re out of the picture!
12.) Give Yourself One Real Compliment Every Day
Did you know you had a 1 in 400 TRILLION chance of being born? How insane is that?!
You’re a miracle! So start acting like one!
Every day when you wake up, look at yourself in the mirror and say, “My chances of being born were 1 in 400 trillion, I’ve already won the lottery of life, and I love (insert thing) and myself/my life.”
13.) Forgive Others
One of the best things you can do for yourself is to forgive others. Forgiveness is never as much about the other person as it is about you — by forgiving others for the hurt they’ve caused you, you release toxic emotions you’d otherwise keep inside of yourself.
Regular forgiveness allows you to let go of the past, and move forward without negative attachment so you can live your life freely.
14.) Love Without Expectation
Think back to when you were a child, and you exuded love for everyone and everything around you. You loved fully and without expectation. You didn’t need to prove yourself to anyone or exchange your love for approval.
Love like your inner child did — freely and without expectation. This will allow you to fully immerse yourself into each person and situation that comes into your life.
15.) Honor Yourself
Don’t do or be something because someone else wants it for you. Make your decisions in life based on your own dreams, desires, and intuition.
Honor yourself, and be the author of your own story.
16.) Eat Regular, Nourishing Meals and Drink Lots of Water
You’re a spiritual being having a human experience, and as long as you’re walking this earth you need to nourish your body (which is your physical vessel) by feeding it regular, healthy meals.
By nourishing your body, you’ll have the energy and nutrients you need to go get through this physical experience.
Also, remember to drink lots of water! Your body is primarily made up of water, and as such, it needs constant replenishment so your organs can function properly.
17.) Step Outside of Your Comfort Zone Often
“A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there.”
If you want to change your life, you have to start by changing your routine. Every day, challenge yourself to do something that makes you uncomfortable — whether that’s signing up for an improv class and performing comedy, dining out alone, or doing something else that will force you to step outside of your self-defined parameters.
By regularly stepping outside of your comfort zone, you’ll harness talents you never knew you had, grow as a person and maybe even find your purpose in life…
