“The truth shall set you free.” – Jesus
When I was a little girl, I had this recurring dream:
I was my higher self — weightless and formless — standing in front of bright, faceless beings. They encircled me, but I knew I wasn’t trapped. They told me I was going to stay with them.
But, I protested.
There was something I had to do, something still unfulfilled, and recognizing this, I told them I needed to go back to earth. I promised them if they gave me another chance, things would be different this time around and I’d live in alignment with my soul’s mission.
Initially, my requests were met with resistance. But, finally, after enough convincing, they agreed and sent me on my way.
As soon as I got their seal of approval, I’d wake up.
This experience was vivid and somewhat haunting because I couldn’t figure out if it was a figment of my imagination or an authentic experience. So I asked my mom about it:
“Mom?” I said.
“Yes?” She replied.
“Why do I keep having this dream that I’m begging to be here? Begging to be alive? But, something keeps telling me I can’t come back, and then suddenly I wake up and have another chance.”
My mom’s face immediately turned ghostly white. She took a long breath in and sighed heavily before speaking:
“When I first found out I was pregnant with you, I was devastated. I was only 22-years-old and was struggling to raise the child I already had. I wasn’t sure I wanted to be with your father, and I wasn’t ready for another baby. I thought I didn’t want you.
Then one night, early in my pregnancy with you, I got food poisoning. It was intense and I was very sick — on the verge of losing you.
It was then that I realized I did want you. I craddled my stomach and prayed to God to let you stay with me. I told you I loved you and wanted you to be here. I begged you to stay with me, and not to go. You ended up surviving.”
As my mother spoke, goosebumps quickly covered my entire body. I knew instinctively that her account of what had happened when she was pregnant and the recurring dream I was having were interrelated, and if she had not begged for me to be here, then my soul would have left.
Soon after our conversation, those dreams stopped, and as time went on I buried that experience somewhere in my unconscious mind where it stayed until I was an adult.
Then when I was in my early 20’s, the dream started coming back — and I had this eerie feeling of déjà vu. At that time in my life, I was partying a lot, not always making good decisions and living out of alignment with my purpose.
I realized it had come back to serve as a re-awakening for my soul because I needed a reminder to start fulfilling my purpose — and the things I’d promised to do while here on earth.
Perhaps you had similar dreams, visions or feelings at some point in your life, or maybe you haven’t. Regardless, before we’re born, all of us put forth certain agreements for our lives that we’re meant to fulfill and it’s our job to figure out what they are and live in alignment with those agreements.
Here are the agreements you made before you were born:
1.) You Agreed to Bring Love into This World
Before you were born, you were in a place surrounded by total and complete love.
Love radiated through you, and you radiated love in return.
When you asked to be born, your birth came with a contingency: your success on earth would be measured by how much love you gave to everything and everyone around you.
As a spiritual being, this agreement was as natural as breathing because love was an inseparable part of you.
But, because life on earth is full of complexities — from difficult jobs and relationships to hardships, and challenges — sometimes coming from a place of love doesn’t feel natural or easy.
However, it’s still our responsibility as humans, and as spiritual beings, to approach life with love and to bring more love into the world. This is the #1 agreement we all made before we were born, and by honoring it we honor each other, ourselves and the entire world.
Close your eyes and allow your soul to remember how it felt to be surrounded by total and complete love. Then ask yourself, “how can I bring more of this feeling into the world?”
2.) You Agreed to Fulfill Your Soul’s Purpose
Every soul comes forth into physical being with a special purpose to fulfill. Part of your journey here on earth is for you to learn what your purpose is and to work toward fulfilling it.
If you’re reading this right now then that means your soul is still on its journey of fulfillment.
If you don’t know where to begin, start by asking yourself these 21 questions. They will help you understand your unique talents, strengths, and purpose.
3.) You Agreed to Live Life in The Present Moment
As a spiritual being, you weren’t bound by time or space. You were free to move around wherever and whenever you pleased. Being present was an unquestionable part of you and before you came into physical form, you agreed to live your life on earth in the same manner.
You were aware you’d experience a multitude of challenges, contrasts, and distractions that would make living in the present moment more difficult, but you agreed these experiences would be necessary for helping you understand how to honor your time, cherish your gifts, love others and live in a continuous state of gratitude.
