“I believe the greatest gift you can give your family and the world is a healthy you.” – Joyce Meyer
Growing up, healthy eating and organic living wasn’t part of my repertoire. My mom struggled to make ends meet and just wanted to make sure we had food to eat — regardless of where it came from.
My sisters and I were always thin, and as children had no issues with our health. I honestly thought nothing of my diet until I was in college and I took a class on food production. Horrified by the chemicals and pesticides I was consuming, I immediately switched my diet from heavily processed to organic, whole foods. I assumed this was enough, and I’d done everything in my power to be healthy.
But then I became pregnant with my son, and soon after my body began to reject the over-the-counter skin products I was using. Every time I’d wash my face or put lotion on, my skin would heat up and break out in hives. It was like I’d spent hours with my face in the hot summer sun, except I hadn’t.
Desperate for answers, and to find a product that would actually work, I started to do some research. I needed to find something I could put on my skin that wouldn’t burn and would keep my skin moisturized because my pregnancy was always drying out my skin.
Through research, I realized what I had been putting on my skin (the body’s biggest organ) was toxic. It contained all kinds of chemicals that were soaking into my bloodstream. Things like synthetic colors that cause skin irritability and are banned in the European Union because they’re considered to be human carcinogens, and Phthalates — a chemical linked to increased breast cancer and increased risk of birth defects!
I was SHOCKED. No wonder my skin broke out — it was protecting my baby!
Without hesitation, I threw away all of my skincare products, and as a quick fix (needing something to moisturize my skin) I turned to the organic olive oil in my kitchen. It did the job and kept my skin feeling soft and moist, but it also made my skin really greasy and caused me to breakout. I tried a TON of products (all organic) and the one that really worked well to mitigate dryness was organic black seed oil.
I began using organic black seed oil religiously and discovered it has so many more uses than I initially realized!
Here are 5 little-known benefits of organic black seed oil and how you can use it to improve your overall health and wellness:
1.) Enhances Male Fertility
If you’re a man who’s trying to start a family, but struggling due to low sperm count, then try organic black seed oil.
In a study conducted at Iran’s Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences of 34 infertile men (statistical significance is 30), researchers found men who consumed black seed oil daily saw improvement in sperm count and mobility:
“It is concluded that a daily intake of 5ml N. sativa oil for two months improves abnormal semen quality in infertile men without any adverse effects.”
2.) Helps Improve Skin Conditions
If you suffer from acne, clogged pores, inflammation, dry skin or eczema then try using organic black seed oil as a topical skin treatment.
Thanks to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, black seed oil helps reduce clogged pores and it also reduces redness, soothes dryness and irritation.
If you’re looking for relief from these conditions, massage a few drops of the oil onto your face and within a week you’ll begin to notice results!
3.) Aids in Weightloss
Rich in omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids, organic black seed oil aids in increased energy production which positively impacts your ability to quickly metabolize food.
To get the benefits of these fatty acids, simply add a teaspoon of the black seed oil to your meal or consume it by itself.
4.) Reduces Scarring
At one point or another, we all have an accident that will cause a scar (or many!). One of the most powerful agents to use if you’re trying to mitigate or reduce scarring is black seed oil.
Thanks to its antioxidant-rich properties, black seed oil is able to thwart free radicals while stimulating cell regeneration.
The result? Little to no scarring!
To use this remedy, simply apply a few drops of black seed oil daily to your wound once it begins to heal (this is VERY important, don’t use the black seed oil on an open wound or it can cause irritation and other issues). Make sure the wound is clean, and no parts of it are still open.
5.) Helps Lower Cholesterol
Those fatty acids come in handy again when it comes reducing to your cholesterol levels!
In a study conducted using 88 adults with high cholesterol, researchers found that on average, participants who ingested the recommended daily dosage of black seed oil (1 teaspoon) saw a drop in their plasma triacylglycerol levels (which leads to cardiovascular diseases and high cholesterol).
