“Success is not an accident — it’s a choice.” – CAJ Spirituality
From the time we’re little, the idea of being “successful” is pounded into our heads. As adults, we strive to conform to what we’ve been told success is: a high salary, big home, college degree, certain job title, etc.
But, for the purposes of this article, I’d like to challenge society’s definition of success and encourage you to create your own definition. After all, success is highly personal and means different things to different people.
Now is the time to define success on your own terms and begin trekking along the path of your choice. Ready to begin your journey?
Use these 7 tips to harness a personal mindset for success, and start living the life of your dreams:
1. Be growth focused
One of the best ways to wire your mindset for success is to make personal growth and development a top priority in your life.
You can do this by setting aside time every day to work on yourself, learn, and expand your horizons.
If you don’t know where to begin start small — read a book, journal, set goals (and follow through with them), explore a new neighborhood, challenge yourself to learn how to do something new, etc.
Life is a magical journal full of unknowns, and that’s what makes it so exciting! There are infinite opportunities available to you and you can access them when you have a growth-focused mindset!
2. Take chances
When it comes to having a mindset for success, one of the biggest challenges many people face is taking chances. It’s often a scary thing to risk what’s comfortable and familiar with what’s new and unknown — and that stops a lot of us from going for what we really want in life!
But if you want to find success and fulfillment in your life, then you have to be willing to take chances.
Sometimes things will work out exactly as you want them to.
Sometimes they’ll work out even better!
And sometimes, they won’t work out at all and you’ll feel like you failed.
But, setbacks are a normal part of life. And it’s through our setbacks that we’re able to learn the most and the fastest! So anytime things don’t work out the way you want them to, don’t be hard on yourself. Instead, find a lesson and move on.
3: Stop stressing
In my opinion, this is the most important tip to build a mindset for success and find sustainable happiness in your life.
Here’s why: Chronic stress is toxic. It negatively impacts your mind, body and emotional state and leads to anxiety, depression, hopelessness, suicide, addiction, health problems and tons of other issues.
If you feel constantly stressed out by your life, or out of control, then you need to take action immediately to do something about it.
Here are some ideas:
- Meditate: Meditation is a proven way you can relax your body and quiet your mind. Practiced regularly, it has the ability to reduce your stress and anxiety, stop overthinking and bring you peace and clarity.
- Find a way to release it: Go for a walk, exercise, find someone supportive you can talk about it with, etc. When you don’t release your stress it continues to build up inside of you leading to more stress, anxiety, and potential health complications. Let it out so you can work through it rather than be trapped by it!
- Surround yourself with supportive people: By nature, all of us are social beings who want to give and receive love and support. This is especially essential when you’re feeling stressed out because you may feel depressed and/or isolated. If possible, surround yourself with positive, supportive people who will listen to you, make you feel loved and make you laugh!
- Journal potential solutions: What are you stressed about? What can you do right now to feel less stressed about it? No problem is too big to solve — no matter how overwhelming it may seem. By journaling it out, you can identify the root cause of your stress, and start coming up with some potential solutions.
- Get help: You are never alone, and you should never feel alone. If your problems feel too big to solve, and you feel hopeless and depressed seek help! You are loved more than you know, and there is an abundance of love and support in this world waiting for you with open arms!
Once you stop stressing about life, you’ll be able to enjoy it and all of the successes you amass along the way!
4: Learn from your mistakes
Everyone in this world has made mistakes. And we all have this incredible opportunity to learn through our mistakes and make better choices the next time we’re presented with a similar situation.
Rather than getting hung up on all of your past mistakes, and what you wish you would have done differently, instead try to extract a lesson from each mistake. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your life transforms for the better!
5: See the glass as half full
There are two kinds of people in the world: positive and negative.
Positive people always see the glass as half-full, no matter what the situation. Even when they experience personal challenges and setbacks, they’re able to see a silver lining.
Negative people always see the glass as half-empty. Their perspective on life is one of lack, unfairness, and hardship.
Which one best describes you?
By training yourself to be a positive person, and always see the glass as half-full, nothing in your life will feel impossible. Setbacks will only be seen as temporary delays. Challenges will be seen as opportunities for growth. And each time you fall, you’ll be able to get up and brush yourself off wiser, stronger, and more determined than the last time.
A positive mindset is a mindset for success because it will keep you focused on all that you have, how far you’ve come, and where you’re going next without feeling defeated.
6: Be grateful
We live in a multi-dimensional, energetic universe. Everything in this world is made of energy, including all of us.
When we give thanks for all that we are, and all that we have, we attract more things into our lives to be thankful for. And we see life through the lens of appreciation and abundance rather than lack.
A gratitude mindset is a successful mindset and one that will help you enjoy the entire journey of your life!
7: Stop complaining
As an energetic being, you attract into your life what you focus on. So when you complain, not only do you bring yourself down — you also attract more things in your life to complain about.
Yikes!
Luckily you can break this bad habit and adopt a mindset of success by stopping yourself from complaining. At first, this may be difficult — especially since so many of us are raised to complain about everything from the weather to how tired we are, etc., but once you get into the habit of catching yourself in a complaint you can break the habit for good.
Here’s how you can do that: the next time you have the urge to complain (in your head, out loud or to someone else) ask yourself: “Do I really want to bring more of (insert thing) into my life?”
If the answer is no, then stop focusing on that thing and find something to be thankful for. This will immediately switch your perspective from negative to positive.
