“Everything is possible for him who believes.” – Mark 9:23
For many people, there’s a stark divide between religion and “New Age” spirituality — particularly when it comes to Catholicism and Christianity.
Notions such as the law of attraction, manifestation and self-healing practices (meditation, Reiki, yoga etc.) seem counterintuitive to what many Catholic and Christian followers have been taught to believe and practice.
But, by closely studying Jesus’ teachings in the Bible, you’ll realize new age spirituality isn’t actually new at all — it’s just undergone a modern makeover using language that’s more digestible to today’s society.
Jesus is the one who first brought these empowering teachings to us because he wanted us to realize we’re all part of Source energy and as such, powerful and limitless beings.
Here are some examples:
“Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I am doing. He will do even greater things than these because I am going to the Father.” John 14:12
In this passage, Jesus is talking about how the miracles he performed when he was incarnated into the physical body are also possible for us to perform — so long as we believe we can.
He said, “the kingdom of God is within you,” so that we’d understand we don’t need to seek externally to find answers or perform miracles, we simply must go within ourselves and tap into the universal consciousness of Source that connects us all. When we do this, we become limitless and are able to actualize our full potential.
The trouble is, most of us don’t realize what we’re capable of. We’ve been taught we’re weak and flawed, and that our bodies are more real than our souls. But, this is only true if you believe it to be so…
“For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” – Proverbs 23:7
Have you ever heard the phrase, “you become what you believe you are“? Well, that’s exactly what this proverb is teaching us.
If you think you’re a failure, and you believe you’re a failure, then you will experience many ‘failures’ in your life.
If you think you’re unlucky and believe you’re doomed to be unlucky, then you’ll find yourself in all sorts of unlucky situations and experiences.
In contrast, if you think your life is abundant and believe this with every ounce of your being, abundance will find you.
How is that possible? You might be wondering.
It’s simple really — at our core, all of us are vibrating energies that carry an electrical charge. Our lives are magnetic, and what we put out consistently, we get back consistently. Like attracts like.
That’s why it’s so important to focus on the things you want in your life, and the person and SOUL you want to be. You are more than just a physical body having a physical life experience — at your core, you are a powerful, limitless, spiritual being who can bring into your experience anything you believe you can.
“Have faith in God,” Jesus said to them. “Truly, I tell you that if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and has no doubt in his heart but believes that it will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe you have received it and it will be yours…” Mark 11:23-24
In modern “law of attraction” books, you’ll find a common theme — ask for what you want, believe you will receive it and it will be yours.
Your belief is the key to unlocking the law of attraction in your life. You have to feel (physically, mentally, emotionally, spirituality) that what you want is already yours, and believe it to be so. That’s why visualizations such as vision boards, meditations etc. are so powerful because they allow you to place yourself into the situation of ‘having’ whatever it is you want.
“Everything is possible for him who believes.” – Mark 9:23
Most of us in today’s world are skeptics. We don’t believe in things until they can be proven to us, or we can see them with our own eyes.
But, when we live life according to this dogma, we live life in darkness because we prohibit ourselves from even experiencing personal enlightenment. In this passage, Jesus is telling us that faith comes first and results (what we want) come second.
S(he) who believes is capable of anything — and as such is living in the way humans were created to live — as infinite creators with limitless potential.
“Trust in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit everything to the Lord. Trust in Him and He will watch over you.” Psalm 37:4-5
When you have a goal or a dream, rather than trying to force it to happen, and then getting frustrated when it doesn’t go exactly according to your plan, this Psalm teaches us instead to ask, believe and then let go.
Don’t worry about “how” things will come to fruition, instead have faith and what you want will come to pass.
Above all remember, Jesus didn’t come to earth to condemn us, or make us feel bad about our lives. He came to earth to wake us from our body-focused amnesia, remind us we’re an extension of Source and teach us how to live in harmony with each other, and the universe.
