A Letter from Your Inner Child: Rediscovering Joy and Freedom

The joy you felt as a child is still within you, waiting to be rediscovered.

– Your Inner Child

Dearest Grown-Up Self,

I am your inner child, the part of you that remembers your dreams, your joy, and your sense of wonder. I know that right now you may be feeling lost and stuck in a rut, but I am writing to you today to remind you of the amazing potential that still lies within you.

Do you remember when you were little, how you used to play and explore without any worry or hesitation? You would run and jump and laugh, and it felt like nothing could hold you back. You felt free, protected, and non-judged. You knew who you were, and you knew that joy was your birthright.

I want you to remember that feeling, dearest grown-up self. I want you to remember that you are still that same child at heart, with the same sense of wonder and possibility. I want you to remember that you are deserving of freedom, protection, and non-judgment, just as you were when you were a child.

A Letter From Your Inner Child

I know that sometimes life can be hard, and that it can be easy to forget who you truly are. But I am here to remind you that the truth about joy still lives within you, waiting to be remembered. It’s okay to ask for help, to take time for yourself, to say no to things that don’t serve you. It’s okay to be vulnerable, to make mistakes, to learn and grow. It’s okay to embrace your inner child and to let her guide you towards what brings you true joy.

I know that you may be facing challenges right now, but please remember that these challenges are not a reflection of your worth. You are a beautiful, unique, and valuable person, with so much to offer the world. You have the power within you to overcome anything that comes your way and to achieve your dreams. All it takes is a willingness to believe in yourself and to take action towards the life you truly desire.

So, dearest grown-up self, I ask you to take a deep breath and remember who you are. I ask you to remember that you are loved, protected, and guided by the Universe, and that your inner child is always with you, cheering you on. I ask you to take a moment to play, to explore, to laugh, and to feel the freedom and joy that is your birthright.

You are capable of amazing things, and I believe in you. Remember that you are never alone, and that you have everything you need within you to create the life you desire. Keep moving forward with courage and confidence, knowing that the Universe has wonderful things in store for you.

With love and wonder,

Your Inner Child

  1. Unfortunately, this leaves behind those of us who did not experience those feelings described in the first couple of paragraphs. Many bad childhoods began at the very beginning and did not allow us to experience joy, free of worry and hesitation, etc. We can still work on all of this, but we must create it, not simply rediscover it.

    1. Hi Jane – thank you for your thoughtful comment. You are absolutely right – not everyone has these experiences in childhood. For those who experienced trauma early on, what do you think their inner child would need?

  2. This was lovely! I think that, regardless of what kind of childhood one remembers, there was a time (before we became conscious) that we were all carefree, joyous, and full of wonder. We may not remember it now, and that is why I like how you say, “remember who you are.” All of life is trying to remember or return to the truest version of yourself.

  3. Hi Nida,

Thank you for your comment – I’m glad you enjoyed this piece! And you’re right – life really is about remembering the truest version of ourselves… Let’s continue to encourage and uplift each other on this journey of self-discovery. ❤️
