Spiritual Fatigue: What it is And 5 Ways to Overcome it

These days, spirituality is everywhere. From meditation apps, to the self-help isles of the bookstore and sponsored Instagram posts from spiritual influencers like Gabrielle Bernstein and Jay Shetty.

And while much of the information being disseminated is helpful, and often life-changing, at a certain point it becomes too much all at once.

Without having the time to process the information, and determine which messages resonate with our soul the most, we end up feeling spiritually fatigued. This spiritual fatigue leads to feelings of lethargy, inaction and confusion.

If you’re feeling spiritually fatigued by all of the information bombarding your life, then read on — this article is for you.

Here are 5 ways to overcome spiritual fatigue:

1.) Don’t Over Consume

Too much at once is never good. Your brain can only process a few things at once. This means if you try to learn too much in a short period of time, your brain won’t retain the information.

Rather than over consuming and trying to follow the advice of every spiritual influencer out there, or reading every new spiritual book, or testing every new spiritual practice, reduce your consumption.

Take each lesson as it comes, one at a time. Then apply that lesson to your life, and see if it resonates with you. If it does, you can keep doing it, if it doesn’t try something else.

When you stop over-consuming, you give your mind, body, and soul the opportunity to grasp different spiritual concepts and use the ones that fit the best with your life. Plus, you won’t feel overwhelmed and spiritually fatigued.

2.) Journal Daily

You have thousands of thoughts swirling around in your head every day, and when you’re in the spiritual trenches trying to find your way, it’s likely you’ll experience confusion from time to time.

Fortunately, you can easily clear the confusion you feel by journaling daily. Not only is journaling good for your mental health because it gives you a chance to check in with your feelings, but it also allows you to flush out your thoughts and ideas as related to spirituality.

Spend 5 to 10 minutes every day getting your thoughts on paper. Doing this is therapeutic and will help reduce spiritual fatigue because you will be able to process your learnings fully.

3.) Focus on One Thing

As a spiritual seeker, you’re probably eager to learn as much as you can. However, when your attention is scattered, you won’t retain as much information. (Focus goes hand-in-hand with conscious consumption).

Plus, lack of focus leads to spiritual burn out and overwhelm.

Make a list of everything you want to learn about spirituality. Your list can include books to read, exercises and meditations to try, courses to take and so forth. Customize it to you, and then focus on one thing at a time.

Work through your list in order of importance to you. Once you master one thing, then you can move on to the next thing.

Not only will focusing on one thing at a time help you reduce spiritual fatigue, but it will also help you become a multi-faceted spiritual expert!

4.) Go Within

With so much information about spirituality readily available at your finger tips, it’s easy to forget to go within.

Afterall, what do you really know about spirituality and the laws of the Universe, right?

Well, it turns out you know a lot. Much more than you give yourself credit for in fact.

You are a spiritual being cloaked in a human body. As such, you have access to the infinite wisdom of the Universe and your Higher Self 24/7. Take time to go within every day. This will help you unlock answers to the burning questions you have about your life and purpose such as “Who am I?” and “Why am I here?”.

5.) Ask for Guidance

When you’re feeling overwhelmed and fatigued by your spiritual journey, ask for guidance. You are never alone, and can always ask for and receive guidance.

When you want to ask for guidance, be specific about your question. Then be open to all of the ways the Universe can respond to you. For example, if your question is, “Am I on the right path?” pay attention to the signs or answers that flow into your life after you ask your question.

Use these 5 tips to overcome spiritual fatigue, and enjoy a fruitful spiritual journey!
